Graston

The Graston technique innovatively uses specific design instruments for the deep treatment of muscles and ligaments.

What is this method of treatment?

01

This technique innovatively utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments that enhance the chiropractor’s ability to effectively break down muscle and ligament tissue adhesions and fibrosed tendons. The instruments are moved along the longitudinal axis of the musculotendinous structures involved. The instrument that passes over the skin of the patient can detect changes in soft tissue texture through the vibrations of the instrument. Indeed, it slides on areas of irregular fibrosis underlying connective tissue. For treatment, the chiropractor will use a specific instrument to treat the area affected by fibrosis and inflammation.

What are the advantages of this technique?

The tools used with the Graston technique increase the perception of minor changes in soft tissue texture and make accessible deep muscle layers difficult to reach manually. This technique allows a quick and effective diagnosis, and facilitates the treatment of musculotendinous conditions.

How do muscular lesions occur?

The tissues constituting the human body are capable of a certain amount of work without hurting themselves. If they are asked to lift a heavy load, they may tear. In the same way, they are also limited in terms of frequency; for example, the same movement can be performed 15 times / hour without damage, but if the frequency is raised to 50 times / hour, they may be injured. Tissues can therefore be injured by undergoing intense stress or repeated stress, with a decrease in their oxygen supply, caused by prolonged contraction or repeated friction between different tissues.

Who can benefit from this treatment technique?

This technique is widely used, among others, in the sports field. Indeed, many athletes who submit their body to intensive training use this type of treatment to facilitate the healing of injuries, but also to optimize their performance. They may also be suitable for workers performing repetitive movements and people with injuries resulting from activities of daily living.
