Neurorehabilitation in functional neurology

The Chiromedic Center now offers functional neurology rehabilitation under the care of Dr. Martin Lafrenière, chiropractor, DC (American Chiropractic Neurology Board, Diplomate).

Functional neurology is based on the principle of neuronal plasticity, i.e. the brain’s ability to adapt and reorganize itself in response to specific stimuli. Treatment in functional neurology involves stimulating brain areas identified as problematic through a variety of therapeutic strategies. These include proprioceptive stimulation, vestibular therapy, neuro-visual therapy, manual therapy, sensory-motor stimulation, home neurological rehabilitation exercises, nutritional counseling and much more. The functional neurology practitioner will not hesitate to prescribe further tests to refine his or her diagnosis, or to refer you to other health professionals if your problem does not fall within the scope of functional neurology.

01

Functional neurology is particularly effective in the following cases:

  • Persistent symptoms following concussion
  • Vertigo and dizziness
  • Chronic pain resistant to conventional treatments
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Muscle dysfunction (spasms, dystonia, hyperkinetic syndrome)
  • Certain neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Balance and coordination problems
  • Neuropathies
  • Functional neurological disorders (FND)
  • Functional neurological manifestations in certain cases of post-COVID syndrome (long COVID)
  • Optimizing performance in athletes through targeted exercise and stimulation of brain areas and neural circuits identified as hypo-functional following specific evaluation
